Apple vs Adobe vs freedom

Posted & filed under Random Thoughts.

Apple and Adobe go head to head while the development community are the ones that suffer.

Steve Jobs and Adobe have been at war over Flash for some time, most noticeably with Apple banning Flash from the iPhone/iPad environment.

The Free Software Foundation says that both companies are opposed to user freedom.

One of the reasons I prefer to develop using Java (also banned from the iPhone/iPad) is that it is cross-platform. My belief is to let the user choose the most appropriate platform for their needs, and not have the developer dictate this. It also makes sense for the developer as it maximizes the potential market.
