Still waiting for Senator Conroy (Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy) to reply to my last letter about the proposed Mandatory Internet Filter. It was quite a long letter and given the level of opposition to this fatally flawed proposal (Study casts doubt over net filter support) he should have quite a few letters to read.

I have sent him another one to mull over.

2010 May 12

Senator Stephen Conroy
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
Level 4, 4 Treasury Place
Melbourne Vic 3002

Dear Sir,

I wish to express my serious concerns about your proposed Mandatory Internet Filter initiative.

Now that you have agreed that your proposed Mandatory Internet Filter will not work (Four Corners, 2010May10),
why are you still persisting with it? The only conclusion I can reach is that you are trying to gain support from
wowsers, like the Australian Christian Lobby. Given that in the latest Age/Nielsen Poll Family First had 2% and The
Greens had 13%, you are alienating more people with this proposal than you could hope to gain.

If the ETS can be dropped then this proposal needs to be buried as soon as possible (if not sooner).

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Shipley
